Organization is the first step to coaching youth football success. Far too many people volunteer to coach and have no idea of the task that awaits them. You will need to have a complete understanding of the rules, drills, plays and safety considerations of football. You will also be required to teach an offensive and defensive system to GROUP OF YOUNGSTERS. This is where most beginning coaches miss the target in a big way. Most guys bring out the old high school playbook and hit the field. They completely disregard the fact that they are teaching their old high school system to kids that are 1/3 the age they were in high school. They ignore the fundamentals and believe in “old school” logic where you scream at the kids for no reason and condition the crap out of the kids to “toughen them up”.
Please do not believe this garbage for a minute. You will fail if you think using “old school” methods will work. It takes hard work, research and common sense to succeed coaching youth football.
