PennLive, Advanced media, 247Sports, and Scout are all expected to have analysts on hand for the event, which begins early this morning at the New York Jets’ training facility here. The Opening is a premier high school football event held in Beaverton, Ore., every summer, featuring the best of the best juniors and sophomores from around the country.
No Penn State commitments are expected to be on hand Sunday, but plenty of targets are. According to 247Sports, highly-coveted junior prospects such as five-star defensive tackle Rashan Gary, four-star defensive end Ron Johnson, four-star receiver Steven Smothers, three-star linebacker Cameron Brown, and four-star Philadelphia Imhotep Charter teammates Naseir Upshur, a tight end, and Shaka Toney, a defensive end, are all slated to compete. Each member of that list has a Penn State offer, too.
Looking at sophomores scheduled to attend, there is plenty of Penn State flavor in that group, as well. Recently offered Delaware linebacker Avery Roberts confirmed to PennLive that he will be on hand, and 247Sports reported one of Pennsylvania’s top players in the 2017 cycle, Philadelphia running back D’Andre Swift, will be a part of the running backs group that drills Sunday. The outlet also reported recently offered New Jersey defensive tackle Dalyn Wade-Perry, who visited for the Blue-White game, will be there, and Bishop McDevitt athlete Kobay White is also expected to attend.
