USA Today Ranks Bears Dead Last In Its Offseason Power Rankings CBS Chicago
(CBS) There are no illusions about Chicago football right now. Any fan paying a lick of attention knows the Bears are in rebuilding mode after a disastrous 5-11 season led to the firing of general manager Phil Emery and coach Marc Trestman.
Now leading the way are new general manager Ryan Fox and coach John Fox. They’ve started the rebuild with one big free-agent signing — inking edge rusher Pernell McPhee to a five-year deal with $16 million guaranteed and up to nearly $40 million — and a series of small moves, including the addition of receiver Eddie Royal and defensive lineman Ray McDonald. In the draft, Chicago used its first-round pick on Kevin White, a highly regarded receiver who’s expected to be the downfield threat the Bears have been in search of.
So after all that, how are the Bears viewed by outsiders? Not too highly in the eyes of USA Today.
Out of the 32 NFL teams, the Bears check in at 32nd in USA Today’s offseason power rankings.
The outlet’s breakdown reads: “Remember that movie ‘Unstoppable’? John Fox may need to recruit Denzel Washington to parachute in and avert this train wreck.”
For those wondering, the Packers check in at No. 2, the Vikings are at No. 13 and the Lions at No. 19. The Seahawks nabbed the top spot after losing in the final minute of the Super Bowl. See more…
